This course is part of the Scottish Wider Access Programme (SWAP)and  is aimed at both mature students and those who have recently left school and want to progress to study for a degree or HNC. On successful completion of this one year programme, the SWAP partnership will provide you with the opportunity to study on a relevant higher education course at college or a degree at university.

What qualifications do I need?

If you're aged between 16 and 21 you'll need English and another subject at National 5 or Intermediate 2 level (preferably Maths or Science). If you're a mature student, you can apply with little or no qualifications. For a place on the course you'll need to take a written assessment.

Those with English as a second language or other language must have Higher ESOL or equivalent.

If you're invited to an interview, please bring proof of your qualifications.

What can I do after?

Following the successful completion of a higher-level qualification in science, students can be employed in a wide range of occupations in biomedical sciences, forensic sciences. There are also many careers open to science graduates who would prefer to use their science knowledge and skills outside of a lab setting. Opportunities exist across the public, private and voluntary sectors - from business, health and communications, to research, policy work and teaching.
