Overview
What will I learn?
This qualification gives you the skills to plan, design and build your own computer games, while also introducing you to the fast-growing world of Esports. You’ll learn how games are created from concept to final product and gain hands-on experience using industry-relevant tools and techniques.
The course is ideal for learners who want to progress into the games industry, Esports, digital media or software development, either directly, through an apprenticeship, or by moving on to further study. Successful students can progress to the HNC or HND Computer Games Development programmes at West College Scotland.
You'll learn about:
- Animation Skills – create characters, motion and visual effects
- Artificial Intelligence in Games – design smart, reactive game behaviours
- Gameplay – understand mechanics, interaction and player experience
- Computer Games: Media Assets – produce graphics, audio and other game assets
- Game Development – build full games using development tools
- Games Programming – learn the basics of coding for games
- Digital Game Design – create concepts, environments and game flow
- Software Development – strengthen your core coding and logic skills
- Media Production – work with audio, video and digital tools
- Esports Broadcasting – learn how to stream, produce and present live gameplay
- Hosting an Esports Event – plan, organise and run your own event
What qualifications do I need?
You’ll need three National 5 (SCQF Level 5) qualifications at Grade C/3 or above, including English and Maths.
An NPA in Computer Games Development at Level 4, 5 or 6 can also count as one of these qualifications.
What can I do after?
After successfully completing this course, you can progress to a range of Level 6 or Level 7 programmes, including:
- HNC Computer Games Development
- HNC Computing: Software Development
