What will I learn?
Turn your passion for coding, problem-solving and technology into real-world development skills. This course gives you a strong foundation in software development, programming, web technologies and professional computing practice. You’ll work with modern tools and industry-relevant techniques to prepare you for entry-level roles or progression onto further study.
You'll learn about:
- Computing Fundamentals – core principles that underpin modern IT systems
- Multi-User Operating Systems – how enterprise-level systems are configured and managed
- Database Design Fundamentals – designing and building efficient data models
- Software Development: Introduction – key programming concepts and problem-solving skills
- Computer Systems Architecture – how hardware and software work together
- Troubleshooting Computing Problems – diagnosing and resolving technical issues
- Team Working in Computing – collaborating on real development tasks
- Mobile Technology – exploring mobile platforms and application concepts
- Developing Small-Scale Applications – planning, building and testing standalone software
- Professionalism & Ethics in Computing – understanding your responsibilities as a developer
- Computing: Graded Unit 1 – An exam designed to ensure that the candidate has achieved the principal aims of the HNC award
- Web Development: Essential Content – creating functional, interactive websites
- Professional Career Development – preparing for roles in the IT and software industry
- Ethical Hacking – understanding security principles to improve secure coding practice
What qualifications do I need?
You'll need one Higher at Grade C or above, or an NC in a computing subject such as NC Computing with Digital Media, NC Games Development or NC Computing with Cyber Security. A completed Foundation Apprenticeship in Software Development is also accepted.
If you don't have formal qualifications but can demonstrate practical programming knowledge, enthusiasm and relevant experience, you are encouraged to apply. Mature students are welcome.
As part of the application process, you’ll be invited to attend an interview.
What can I do after?
After successfully completing this course, you’ll have the skills needed for an entry-level role in software development, testing, web development or general programming.
