Overview

What will I learn?

This course provides workplace assessors with the knowledge and skills to:

  • Successfully assess a learner's performance through observation and offer feedback on these decisions in line with the organisational and awarding body requirements
  • Assessment preparation and planning to meet the needs of learners and the environment
  • Judging evidence against agreed standards to make assessment decisions
  • Providing feedback and support on your assessment decisions
  • Contributing to the internal quality assurance process

What qualifications do I need?

J8RP 04 Assess learner achievement in the workplace using direct methods of assessment is for those who assess in the workplace using a range of assessment methods.

To achieve this unit, the assessor-candidate will use the following direct assessment methods:

  • Observation
  • Examination of work products
  • Questioning

Someone holding this unit will be able to assess SVQs (or individual units), other workplace qualifications and in-company standards that only require one or more of these three assessment methods.  Please check your assessment strategy to ensure you are selecting the appropriate unit for your workplace.

Direct assessors’ of this kind may also contribute to the assessment of the SVQs, other workplace qualifications or in-company standards that require a wider range of assessment methods that include indirect methods, where the final assessment decision is being made by another assessor.

You will be supported towards success by a lecturer, you will have access to lunchtime 45 minute workshops and you will benefit from up to 4 one-to-one meetings via MS Teams.

It is expected that this qualification will take between 3 and 6 months to complete.
